I’m going to come clean with you right away and admit that Simple Kind Of Fun is more of a wishful thinking song than something I actually do. I wrote all of these songs for me as reminders of how I want to live. Just because I sing them doesn’t mean I’m good at being true to their words!
One day my wife came home from work and I was so proud to tell her that for a half hour that day, I did nothing! I made a cup of tea, sat in one of our Adirondack chairs in our back yard and did nothing! It felt great but that is really hard for me to do.
In my Find My Smile video I talk about how taking a bit of time to relax and work wonders on a busy day and this song just enforces that idea. I often get it in my head that for something to be fun it has to be a big production. Sometimes it’s the simplest things that are the most enjoyable!
This song was born during a traffic jam on the Florida Turnpike. I had been on the road for a while and looking forward to some simple fun. I was stuck under an overpass and the first words I wrote down were, “get me far, far away from all this concrete.” The rest of the song came from there.
Thanks for being here!
Matt
